Sorry for the lack of updates, nothing much has been happening in Westwood world I'm afraid. More socialising - a rubiks cube party, sitting by the pool, drinks at the Radisson Blu, drinks at the golf club, a barbecue on the beach and burgers at 'The Gourmet Burger Company'. It's really not such a tough life.
We spent yesterday morning playing golf (me as caddy once more) in 35 degree heat! It was rather warm to say the least, but we now own a golf trolley which makes life somewhat easier. The highlight of the round was trying to play through the gap left between 2 JCBs on the 7th hole! We finally finished, rather warm as you can imagine and headed off (post shower I hasten to add) to the beach at Seifah for an evening barbie. It was absolutely glorious! We went for an evening snorkel and saw some more fantastic fish along with plenty of crabs. Some of the others saw a sting ray and a huge lobster, but we weren't quite so lucky. You just can't beat an evening sitting looking at the stars. Our one complaint? Too much light pollution from the full moon... Parking on the sand next to where we were eating seemed like a good idea at the time, especially when we needed some light to cook by. Unfortunately, the good old landy doesn't like sand too much, so getting off the beach was a small mission but we did it and all was well in the end.
Having nothing to do on a Friday (weekend day 2) is still something of a novel concept (well, nothing apart from the washing, cleaning and tidying duties that is), so we decided to take a walk and try to find the local beach. After what felt like miles, we arrived. Unfortunately, it isn't quite like the beaches we have been used to and were feeling a little disappointed. However, when we walked home again we discovered that it was actually only a ten minute walk. Maybe not such a problem after all! I think the heat was playing tricks on our distance perception. We took a slight detour through the local shops on our return and have found lots more exciting places to explore. Nothing was open, but we have found plenty of places to investigate further.
Work is still work, but we are finding plenty of things about Oman to be overly pleased about. My brain still cannot cope with the fact that it is mid October, bright and sunny and still reaching 38 degrees in the daytime. Everyone keeps telling us that the cool weather is coming, and ocasionally it feels cooler - the other morning it was 26 degrees when we left for work - but still it gets hot again. One of the girls here has heard that it has been snowing in Aberdeen, and I had an e-mail this morning from a friend with her central heating on. Oh, the cold and miserable UK weather seems such a distant memory!
Don't forget - visitors are always welcome, seeing is believing and it's such a beautiful country!
Forgot to say - one of the PE teachers is from Wales, and her chap is from Saundersfoot... blast from the past, memories of GB camps!!!
