Yesterday was the first day back at work after our Eid break, so an early start - 5:45 (!). The day was mostly un-eventful, just another day at the office as it were. Having spent Thursday evening at the golf club socialising (yes, more socialising!) and meeting the club captain, we decided that it would definitely be rather nice to join. So, membership forms in hand we went again after work hoping for a round. Stupidly, I had agreed to caddy for Joe given that my golfing skills are still rather basic (well, that's the polite way of putting it!). 8 balls later, much sand in shoes and feeling rather warm (it was still around 32 at this point!), we gave up on the 9th hole because it got dark. Not sure if it was because they felt sorry for us, or if it was due to our dogged determination, they have accepted our membership request! So, we are fully paid up members of Oman's oldest golf club - the Ghala Wentworth. It's currently a sand course, but they are making it into grass - first 9 holes due to be open in January. You haven't played golf until you have experienced sand, let me tell you. It was a rather unusual experience to say the least. Can't say I've ever had to avoid geckos on the fairway at Warley Woods, nor have I had a whole course of bunkers. Seeing truly is believing once again!
Anyway, another fairly typical day again today - Joe has gone to the Inter-Continental Hotel to watch the Manchester United - Liverpool match (have to keep reminding myself that it's Sunday not Tuesday!). I have stayed to do some planning and was doing quite nicely until the auto shut down kicked in and I have lost my momentum. Thought I would keep you readers entertained instead while I await the end of the footie and collect my dear husband from the bar.
We're hoping for more golf tomorrow after work before we go to dinner with some colleagues. Have come to the conclusion that the food is just too good to continue commenting on.
We do still marvel at how fortunate we are in all aspects of Oman.
