The idea of blogging daily seems to be somewhat hampered by the lack of internet access at home I'm afraid, so thanks to all for your patience.
Since the last blog post rather a lot has happened in our Omani world...
We have dined at the Grand Hyatt, Muscat (at the pool bar. The people inviting us neglected to say that swimming/sunbathing was on offer in addition to lunch, so we sat by the pool in jeans. Not recommended for this heat. Still, we live and learn!).
We wandered briefly around the Muttrah Souk on Thursday morning, unfortunately it was 1pm and therefore mostly closed but a good time was had by all.
On Friday, we went exploring to the north of Muscat to a small place called Seeb. Forgetting quite how hot it is coupled with the no drinking in public meant that the short walk along the front and around the harbour wall was rather more of a mission, but it was worth it for the spectacular views. Following this we dined at the Dolphin Club, this time in more appropriate attire and swimming was involved. Neither of us have ever swum in such surroundings - a full view of the mountains from the pool, truly amazing! Going out for a drink on a Friday night was a little different - we went to a local coffee shop for fantastic smoothie/juices. Sadly, Saturday morning was our first day at work, so it was not a late one!
Yesterday (Saturday) was our first day of new staff induction. Much of the day was spent generally mooching around classrooms and meeting co-ordinators. It all looks quite exciting really. Not much to report, other than two trips to Lu Lu and a takeaway curry (Lu Lu trip no 2) which was fantastic.
By far the most exciting news is that we now have our residents' cards. Again, a rather lengthy process (a mere 3 and a half hours) which required finger prints and lots of waiting despite going to the front of most queues. Still, it was all worth it because we can now get Omani driving licences, internet access at home and all sorts of exciting things.
I am also pleased to report that my pink stationery and post-it notes are now installed in my classroom. I am just waiting for Francis to come and put some nice new backing on my boards so that I can start putting up displays.
Tomorrow holds more new exciting adventures - starting with meeting all of the other staff. With any luck, my air con will also be working once the nice men who are currently outside my classroom have fixed it.
hope that you are both well. love from allxx
