We said goodbye to Mandy on Monday and are now recovering from the first week back at work! We completed her holiday with a drink at the Crowne Plaza bar overlooking the bay followed by a third and final consumption of Left Bank's wonderful fish and chips. Then it was all back to normality. We had movie night (The Expendables) with Domino's pizza on Monday and then pub quiz for Sarah's birthday celebration on Tuesday. 'Our' team won thanks to a great effort from all involved (mo not included - I was at choir). Well done them! More socialising mid week, how astonshing!
Yesterday was, for the most part, a normal run-of-the-mill day until mad panic right at the end. The Queen arrives today for her 4-day visit as part of the 40th national day celebrations and chaos will ensue with roads being closed at random times. So, rumour was that the 2 main highways would be closed and we were to leave swiftly. It's an interesting sight, the Sultan's guards stationed at all of the major intersections. We toddled home and were within 8 car lengths of the final roundabout (which goes under one of the highways)when the road was closed in front of us! We were more than slightly puzzled at the concept that we were stuck until someone decided that we could move once more. Not only that, but the road was closed approximately 50 yards from the traffic lights! Anyway, all was well because another of the guards went and said that we could move again and we got home without any problem. Phew!
Drinks at the Dolphin last night to relax at the end of the week and ponder over what pre-Christmas celebrations will take place and when our national day holiday will be called. All much fun.
Hope that you are well, have nt heard from you a while ...
